Wherever
you live in the Democracy of the United States, you are represented in Government:
in Washington, in your State House, and in your Town or City Hall. And believe
it or not, the people who represent you make decisions that affect your life
based on what they think you think.
Democracy means having a say in the way such decisions are made. If you don't
let your Representatives know what you think, then someone who disagrees with
you probably is doing so.
Does my voice alone
hold sway? Of course not; Our Representatives get thousands of communications
on every side of every question, but a ground swell of opinion in a particular
direction is very effective.
Further, telling your Representatives what you think is very easy: in less
than five minutes, I left opinion telephone messages for my two U.S. Senators,
and my Representative in Congress. In another five minutes, I had sent them
e-mails voicing my opinion about authorizing war against Iraq.
If you don't know how to reach your Representatives, try the link that I use
frequently: http://www.congress.org.
Congress.org is an excellent, easy to use, non-partisan, public service website
dedicated to helping Americans communicate not only with our Representatives,
but also with top government officials, the press, and others.
In this time when our civil liberties are being challenged and shrunken day
by day, please be a part of the action: Let your Representatives know what
you think
today and every day.
